CANSA Shavathon 2019
The CANSA Shavathon is an annual event, in support of those affected by cancer. The event has been running for the past 16 years, in order to raise funds for Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA). Hair loss is a common side effect of cancer and the shaving of one’s hair, has become a symbolic gesture of those affect by cancer. For those who prefer not to shave their hair, they have the option to spray or stencil colour to their hair. Apart from paying for the donation of the shaving and/or colouring of the hair; the public also had the options of making a cash donation or donating their ponytail, which had to be longer than 25cm.
The CANSA Shavathon for 2019 was held, in shopping centres around the country, on the 2nd and 3rd of March. In 2019, the Seva Bhakti Foundation (SBF) members decided to become volunteers for the Shavathon at the Galleria mall in Amanzimtoti. They had to attend a training/information session as how the event had to be conducted. With the help of other volunteers, the SBF members assisted in spraying, shaving, registrations as well as trying to get the public, passing by, to contribute.
The event was a success, with the public generously willing to participate in the Shavathon event. The SBF members had a great time in this fun event, to raise funds for a worthy cause. The cause hit a few of the members on a personal level, as they had experience with cancer. Some of the members shaved off their hair, in memory of their loved ones who were lost in the fight against cancer.
Seva Bhakti Foundation would like to thank the public, who contributed towards a worthy cause at the CANSA Shavathon event.
