Christmas 2019
On December 22nd, 2019 Seva Bhakti hosted a fun day for 164 children at the Strelitzia Secondary School grounds in Lotus Park. It was the largest event to be hosted by SBF, to date.
In the weeks leading up to the event; a list of less fortunate children from the surrounding areas was obtained. A request was sent out to sponsors to donate toys and clothing as Christmas presents for the children. The response was overwhelming and the sponsors generously wrapped/packaged gifts for the children, to be handed out on the day.
The day started early for some of the members and volunteers. They were up early at 6 am, to start preparation of breyani, to be given as lunch to the parents/guardians of the children and the volunteers for the day.
The activities and tents were sent up later in the morning, and registration of the children started around 9 am. Children were divided into groups according to their ages and were allocated team leaders, who were volunteers. With the help of the MC for the day, Maeshni Naicker, the team leaders navigated the children through the activities at the various stations for the day; and assisted to the needs of the children
Activities for the children included jumping castles, train rides, mehndi, kiddie rides, face painting as well as candy floss and popcorn machines. Winnie the Pooh, a Smurf, Mickey and Minnie Mouse were also present to entertain the children.
The children were entertained by dance performances from DJ Ziggy and Daniel Logan Meamottian. Santa Claus was also present to hand the gifts to the children, and the children were also able to pose for a photo with Santa.

Throughout the day, the children were provided with juices, chips, cupcakes, ice cream and sweets as treats. They were also treated to meals, sponsored by Nandos, as lunch. Breyani and cool drinks were provided to the parents and guardians of the children.
Based on the reactions of the children, it was quite visible that children were enjoying themselves and they had a fun and entertaining day. Positive feedback was also received from parents, expressing how much their child enjoyed themselves.
It was also great for the volunteers to bring smiles to all the children. A big Thank You goes to all involved to make this a fun event. Your time and hard work is greatly appreciated, to make the day a success.
